Dortmund Sign Teenage Sensation

Birmingham City teenager Jude Bellingham has completed a move to German giants Borussia Dortmund, with the deal set to go through after the club’s last game of the season against Derby County.

The 17-year-old has signed a long-term deal with the Bundesliga side for what was initially an undisclosed fee, but it is understood that Sky Sports have reported that the deal is worth up to £25 million.

“I’m incredibly excited to have joined one of the biggest clubs in Europe” said the under-17 England international. “The direction they are heading in and how much they help young players improve made it an easy decision for me personally and my family. I can’t wait to perform in front of over 80,000 fans when they are back inside one of the most beautiful stages in the world – hopefully as soon as possible! “

Bellingham, who has made 40 appearances for Birmingham in his first season in senior football – scoring four goals and contributing with three assists – was quick to thank the Championship club for everything they have done for him and his career so far.

“I can’t thank Birmingham City enough for what they have done for me – not just this season, but since the age of 7. Of course, I wish everyone associated with the club nothing but the best. Once a blue, always a blue.”

The versatile midfielder made his debut for the Blues on the 6th August 2019 in the Carabao Cup First Round tie away at Portsmouth. At age 16 years, 38 days old, he became Birmingham City’s youngest ever player, beating the record previously set by Trevor Francis in 1970; 16 years, 139 days.

He scored his first senior goal on his home debut against Stoke City, scoring the winning goal in a 2-1 victory, thus becoming their youngest ever goalscorer.

Bellingham was also heavily linked with Manchester United, who were keen on bringing in the teenage sensation. But with Dortmund’s previous history of including young players in their first squad, such as the likes of Jadon Sancho and Christian Pulisic, he has opted to sign for the Black and Yellows.
