Romain Vincelot signs for Stevenage

Stevenage have completed the signing of Shrewsbury Town midfielder Romain Vincelot.

The 34-year-old Frenchman was released by the League One side upon the expiration of his contract. He has not played since last August after undergoing hip resurfacing surgery.

The experienced midfielder has enjoyed a lengthy career and looks forward to a new challenge: “It is great,” Vincelot said. “I spoke to the manager a few weeks ago and I couldn’t wait for this moment because it is the start of something good I think. For me it is important to have the opportunity to enjoy playing again. I just can’t wait.”

Vincelot began his career with French side Chamois Niortais before moving to FC Gueugnon in 2008. He made his move to England in 2010, signing for Dagenham & Redbridge and has enjoyed spells at Brighton and Hove Albion, a loan spell with Gillingham, Leyton Orient, Coventry City, Bradford City and Crawley Town. He signed for Shrewsbury at the start of the season, but only featured five times for the Shrews.

He becomes Alex Revell’s sixth addition of the summer, after young goalkeeper Billy Johnson signed from Norwich City last week. The rest of their new acquisitions have come from non-league football – midfielders Ross Marshall, signing from Maidstone United and Elliot Osborne from Stockport County, as well strikers Femi Akinwande and Inih Effiong, who were both released by Dover Athletic.
