Charlton close to signing Hearts striker

Charlton Athletic have been heavily linked with Hearts of Midlothian striker Conor Washington.

It has been reported by the Daily Record that the 28-year-deal at an advanced stage with the Addicks and is close to agreeing a two-year deal.

Washington began his career in non-league with St Ives Town, where he scored an impressive 74 goals in 92 appearances.

He made the step up to professional football in 2012 when he completed a move to Newport County and helped them get promoted to the Football League. After spending two seasons with the Exiles, he made the move to Peterborough United in League One and bagged 33 goals in 94 games.

He joined Queens Park Rangers in 2015 and spent four seasons with the London side in the Championship. After only managing 14 goals in 98 games, he moved to Sheffield United in 2018 in their promotion-winning season to the Premier League. However, he featured just 16 times for the Blades and failed to score.

The striker made the move to Scotland in June 2019 and signed for Hearts of Midlothian on a two-year contract. He made 21 appearances in all competitions and scored four goals, after being ruled out for three months with a hamstring injury in September.

Charlton were relegated from the Championship by a point in 2019/20 and are in the hunt for a new striker after the departure of Lyle Taylor at the start of last month.
