Wigan Athletic: A Preferred Bidder Has Been Chosen

Wigan Athletic administrator Gerald Krasner confirmed on 24th July that a preferred buyer has been chosen.

The Lactics were placed under administration on 1st July after Hong Kong-based owner Au Yeung Wai Kay admitted they could not support the club financially, despite taking over the Championship side a week before.

Wigan were deducted 12 points by the EFL as punishment for entering administration which is subject to an appeal by the club. Krasner says that the appeal’s decision has been set for 31st July and stated that it would cost up to £500,000 because the club must pay the English Football League’s fees.

The deduction came into immediate effect after the last game of the season, which saw Wigan relegated to League One after their 1-1 draw with Fulham.

Krasner has confirmed that he has already sold one player to pay outstanding wages until June and that two more are likely to be sold by the end of the week. One of them is likely to be Kieffer Moore, with several Championship clubs having bids accepted for the 27-year-old striker.

He said that the owner has agreed to speak to him to explain why the club was put into administration just after he took over at the end of May.
