Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg signs for Tottenham

Midfielder Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg has signed for Tottenham Hotspur for a fee that is short for Southampton’s £25 million asking price.

Hojbjerg, 25, makes the move to North London on a five-year-deal.

After spending his youth academy days in his home nation with BK Skjold, Copenhagen and Brondby IF, the Danish midfielder joined Bayern Munich in 2012, where he played for the club’s second team for two years, making 44 appearances and scoring 12 goals.

He made a number of appearances – 25 in total – for the first team as well, whilst also enjoying loan spells to fellow German sides Augsburg and Schalke.

Hojbjerg left the German giants in 2016 for Southampton, in a deal that was estimated to be around £12.8 million. He penned a five-year deal at St Mary’s Stadium and made 134 appearances for the club and scored five goals.

However, he was stripped of his captaincy and was sidelined for a vast majority of the end of the season, after he refused to sign a contract extension.

Tottenham’s acquisition of Hojbjerg also sees full-back Kyle Walker-Peters heading in the opposite direction and signing for the Saints after having a loan spell in the second half of the 2019/20 season.
