Bristol Rovers loan in Erhun Oztumer

Bristol Rovers have completed the signing of attacking midfielder Erhun Oztumer from fellow League One side Charlton Athletic on a season-long loan.

The 29-year-old becomes the second player to depart Charlton today, after George Lapslie headed to League Two Mansfield Town on loan until the end of the season.

Oztumer has played 19 times for the Addicks since joining last summer from Bolton Wanderers, scoring only one goal – a free kick against AFC Wimbledon in the EFL Trophy.

He will see out the remaining 12 months of his contract with Charlton at the Memorial Stadium.

“Ozzie has come in and it has been difficult for him to stamp down a regular position,” Lee Bowyer explained.

“We’ve tried him and he’s done well for us at times. He’ll go and get regular football and see what he can do once he goes out and then it might benefit us in the long run but most importantly he goes out and plays games.”

With the two departures of Lapslie and Oztumer, this will allow Bowyer and Director of Football Steve Gallen to have some more flexibility as they look to add more bodies to their squad ahead of the 5pm deadline on Friday.
